About International Shipment

KGS has partnered with Yamato USA to provide the most competitive and reliable international shipment service from the US to Japan. You can rest assured that "Kuroneko" will deliver your package in about five business days from the time we ship your goods from our service facility in Portland.

Calculating Shipping Costs

International shipping cost (Air Freight) is not only determined by the actual weight of the package but also by the size (volume) of the package.

Actual Weight is measured by a scale and Volume Weight is calculated using the formula below. While this formula may vary slightly by delivery company, the larger weight is used as the chargeable weight

Length x Width x Height (inches) ÷ 166(pounds) = Volume Weight(lbs)

IATA (The Air Transport Association) defines chargeable weight as "the actual gross weight or volume weight of a shipment, whichever is higher (except in cases where a lower charge for a higher minimum weight applies)".

Calculating Shipping Costs for Multiple Packages

When KGS calculates shipping costs for multiple packages, we measure both the Actual and Volume weight of each box and use the higher of the two figures as the chargeble weight of each box. We add these figures to get the total chargeable weight..

For example: Box A (A.W 7lbs/V.W5lbs) Box B (A.W 20lbs/V.W 17lbs) => Total 35lbs

What if the total chargeable weight exceeds 55lbs?

When the chargeable weight exceeds 55lbs using the calculation used above, we add the extra charge to the base rate of 55lbs
using the formula below.

(Total Weight - 55lbs [Extra Weight])/2.2 x 4 + Fuel Surcharge Fee

First, we deduct 55lbs from the total chargeable weight to get the excess weight. Then, we divide the weight by 2.2 to convert it to kg. The charge for the exceeding weight is $4 per 1kg. Finally, we apply the fuel surcharge percentage to the cost. So, the total cost is Base Rate for 55lbs + the excess weight cost.
